Slow

I wish I had more to write, but as of late things have been rather slow. Last week was a blurry nightmare of a week. I will not relive nor rehash it. It was just one of THOSE weeks, ya know??

The weekend was very mellow and relaxing. Logan and I spent most of the day laying around watching TV. It was 100* so we spent most of our time inside, even though it was beautiful. I hate days like that. It was too hot to enjoy the nice day.

B went camping on Friday night so Logan slept in bed with me. One of my most favorite memories as a child is sleeping in bed with my mom when my dad was out of town. My brother and I would take turns each night. I want Logan to have the same special memories.

The next afternoon, Logan had a fall off our bed. I was standing on the other side grabbing his blankies for nap time and he was climbing up on the other side. In slow motion, he got one leg up and suddenly fell back, hitting his head on the mirror we had on the floor. Thankfully, just a bruise and no blood. My heart left my body for a few moments as I held him and wiped his tears. It was a very sad moment for us both.

Then we took 4 hour naps. It was delicious sleep! B arrived home later that night and we watched Mad Men. We're only on season 2 so no spoilers!

Sunday B worked and L and I had the day to ourselves again. We ran errands and tried going to the park for 15 minutes. Again, it was terribly hot and Logan left the park saying "Mommy, Come! Too hot!". He hears us tell the dogs to come. I suppose that is where he picked that one up. lol While Logan napped I painted his dresser. It's an incredible color, one which you will get to see soon! I screwed all the knobs on this morning and should have pics up tomorrow. :)

Sunday night we traded mattresses with my parents. We now have a very awesome bed that, while I didn't sleep great for other reasons, is really comfy and so much better than our old one! It always takes me a few nights to adjust to a new bed.

oh, you know...stuff

This update is loooooong overdue. I've had a lot going on between Logan being sick, celebrating his birthday, and a crazy week at work. Here comes the brain dump:

Despite the fact that Logan had croup all week, we still had a great time celebrating his birthday. We had a small family party on Friday night which was great! We spent the rest of the weekend recovering. More birthday pics coming soon!

I wrote a review of a book I am still reading and posted it on my Midwife blog. And guess what?? The AUTHOR left me a comment!! She liked my post! Read it HERE.

It snowed on Saturday. A good snow. We got more than we were expecting and I love it! Being in Colorado, we have this stereotype that it's snowy all.the.time. That's not true. First of all, it depends on where you live and secondly, we've had several dry winters the last few years. And when I say dry I mean less than 5 good storms where the snow sticks around for a few weeks, it stays cold, and doesn't melt by noon. We don't live in the mountains so the snow melts faster and it doesn't get or stay as cold. Logan loves the snow! When he says it, it sounds like he's saying "no" and he draws out the O sound. So cute.

Pinterest has been awesome to me. I have done SO much and here are just a few: 

Yarn Balls. I don't know what else to call them. I did these a few weeks ago and we finally hung them over Logan's bed. He loves it! The colors make the room pop. If you want to attempt this, here are a few suggestions:

1. Don't cut your yard into long pieces! This was my first mistake. It took THREE attempts for me to get this right. Just drag the yard out of your skein into your bowl of glue and wrap around the ball. You won't have stray ends you're trying to hide or tuck away.


2. Slather your balloon in vaseline before you begin. A friend suggested this and it was SO helpful! Getting it going is hard, the yarn wants to slip off and you're a big gluey mess. The vaseline helps prevent the yard from sliding off the balloon.


3. TIME! You need A LOT of time without a toddler to get this project done. After I figured out how I was going to do this, I made sure it was during nap time. Logan sleeps 3-4 hours. It took me an hour just to make the four you see there! I love how they turned out but I had no idea how time-consuming it would be.


4. Lots of glue. You need a lot of glue. I went through almost a whole bottle of Elmer's glue for 4 balls.


5. Hang dry. The 2nd attempt didn't work out because I didn't hang dry the ball and it dried great on one side, and mushy on the other.

Our Valentine's Day was awesome! One of the best I've had in a long time. I'm not big on the holiday, but despite how hard I try to resist it's hard not to have any expectations. So this year I just made myself not expect anything and it was perfect. We worked, B sent me a beautiful letter via email, and we spent the evening together. I made tortellinis, which were amazing, and baked asparagus (similar to THIS recipe). I added parmesan cheese and they were soooo good! Logan gobbled up his tortellinis and we thought all was great.

Then I remembered. There is cheese in the torts and I totally forgot! We have been testing Logan to see if he has a lactose issue and obviously I am lactose intolerant. But by the time I realized the mistake I made, it was too late. My stomach started aching but I was fine. I dealt with it. At 3 am, however, Logan woke up in pain. He cried for almost 4 hours straight, on and off between short bouts of sleep, from terrible gas pains. We didn't know right off that was the problem or how to relieve it. We were all miserable and had to work. B got some baby gas drops that those did the trick. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't freaking out. I was. Watching my kid writhe in pain was ripping my heart out. We knew it was his tummy, but we didn't know where or why. And then it dawned on me. The torts. Gaaahhhh! I felt terrible. I wasn't in good shape either but I can deal with it. Thankfully, the drops worked right away and I have a higher alert on for lactose/dairy items.

quiet, except for

It's been quiet around here. I'm going through one of my writing ruts where I'd just rather not write anything. So here's a short update of our on-goings:

• We have been trying to get Logan to use the potty like a big boy by introducing it very slowly. We don't force him to sit on it every day, but when an opportunity presents itself we ask him if he's game and lately, he has been. Usually when we let him run around in the buff or before bath time are our best moments. However, the other night was different. He hadn't pooped in 4 days. I knew he was super backed up and that once it was time for him to go, it would be rough. I was standing in the kitchen washing dishes (because, as you know, we don't have a dishwasher) and Logan comes running up to me and grabs my legs. He begins to cry and I instantly know what's going on. IT'S TIME. I just held him and then B has the brilliant idea to sit him on the potty. Logan was not opposed to the idea, although he was still upset. He managed to go #2 on the potty and was so proud of himself! He got a piece of chocolate and felt so much better when he was done. Now, we're just trying to figure out how to keep this good thing going.


• B and I had Friday off together for the first time in months. It was so nice to spend time together running errands and even taking a late afternoon nap.


• Friday night my bestie came up and we went out to a slushy bar in town.Yes, I said "slushy" and "bar" in the same sentence! It was soooo yummy! Like having a sonic drink only spiked with your liqoure of choice.


• We have decided to put Logan back into a daycare center. We interviewed a center and a home daycare and decided that even though it's more expensive, the center is a better option for Logan. He will thrive more and the times we've visited he has had a great time. I enjoyed meeting the teachers and feel really comfortable with the decision. It's also very close to where we live so what we're saving in gas to take him to the sitter we will put towards his daycare.


• Since I received my promotion, I have had my office painted and the carpet shampooed. It looks so good! I'm still working on the decorating aspect and trying to figure out fun ways to make it my own. Once my schedule is solid in a few weeks I will have evenings off and I'm hoping to sign Logan and I up for the 2nd level of swim lessons. We took the first level class last spring and he just loves the water. Plus more mama-son time together!


• B and I discovered Running Wilde, a short-lived TV show. It's on Netflix and we love it! I also discovered Downton Abbey. Another awesome miniseries.


• Logan started saying "yeah" when we ask him a question rather than just an "uh-hu". It's so cute! What a character. Oh and did I mention he will be TWO two weeks from today?!
