i heart faces-best face of 2011

Normally, this might have been a difficult challenge picking my best face of 2011. But it wasn't. I knew that of the hundreds of photos I took last year that THIS was the best photo, and not just because it's my little Logan looking like a stud. I feel like this photo helped define and increase my photography skills which means I can't wait to see how I grow from it.

i heart faces-beautiful eyes

This is one of my most favorite photos I've ever taken of Logan. He LOVES his bath time. His eyes in this photo say so much, not to mention they're so striking. He gets more compliments on his blue/green eyes than anything else. While the photo is in black and white (originally-not edited to be), color does not matter here. The long eyelashes, almond-shaped beautiful eyes melt my heart.

i heart faces is taking a break this week with challenges, but they did encourage everyone to post lovely photos of flowers to share. I LOVE LOVE LOVE our state flower, the Columbine. Those yellow ones in the bottom right corner? My faves!! And that hillside of multi-colored Columbines? To die for! I love that Columbines have a very mild, if any, scent and they are strong-willed. They have to endure harsh, cold, long winters here in Colorado and the reward is this. So lovely! I took these photos at the Steamboat Springs Botanic Gardens which is where B and I got married. So yeah, I'm a bit partial. Enjoy! And check out all the other lovely photos below.

PS I know that the photo in the bottom left does not feature Columbines. In fact, I'm not quite sure what they are but they're also in the gardens and I loved the white outline. :)

i heart faces-soft and sweet

It goes without saying that I did not take this photo. However, my dear husband B did and of all the photos in our archive that say "soft and sweet" this one stood out the most to me. I realize that I may not be eligible to win the photo contest and that is okay. But B deserves huge kudos for snapping this very special moment between me and my sweet boy. It is one of my most favorite photos of us and a rare moment in which he is actually sleeping on me. The original photo is in black and white and I only made a few adjustments to soften the photo even more.

This weeks challenge theme is pets. It was barely 10* outside and Tulo cannot stand being outside when it's cold. Except when he's running with Butte. Captured this photo mid-sprint and you cannot even tell that he hates how cold it is. Here is his profile:

Wind is all we have been having around here!! I personally cannot stand the wind, especially right now because it makes it so much colder. Come on summer!

I snapped this photo at an apple farm in upstate Michigan, somewhere near Rogers City if you're familiar. We had a blast! As you can see Logan loved swinging. I love everything about this photo. I love that it is off-center, that it's a total action shot, that it's actually in focus (!!!), the look on Logan's face, the shadows on his face, and the wind in his hair. I shared this photo a few days ago and as I was going through the photos I took this month I kept coming back to this fantastic shot of Logan. B's dad and fiancee gifted us an incredible dinner at the aquarium. Our table was right next to a gigantic tank which was home to eels, barracudas, and about 30 other species of salt water fish. It was an incredible experience, mostly because we were seeing the wonder and awe through Logan's eyes. There are no good words to describe how infatuated he was with this adventure. He could not stop smiling. He's looking at a big fish taking a pass in front of the glass yet his reflection is looking right at me. Amazing. I cannot wait to take him back this summer!

Ahhh is this not the cutest picture ever?! I just love it. These two kiddos are going to be best friends. They see each other a few times a month and have since they were about 6 weeks old. Baby bums are the best and even better in swimming gear!

Please note my new photo tag on the bottom left. WAFEO stands for the title of my blog and I added a lil heart for good measure. :)

Also please note what a SLACKER I am in getting this photo entered into the contest! Last week I was number nuevo and this week...well into the late 400's!! Yay! I am back doing the weekly i heart faces challenge! With birthday stuff for the first few weeks taking pictures to go along with the themes was just not doable. So here I am! I am SO glad that "cell phone photos" is the theme this week! I just got a new droid and I LOVE IT!! And the last post i heart faces made today was about two great apps for the droid. I took this photo using the RetroCamera app and I did not to any editing to it! I love how pure and focused this adorable photo of Logan turned out! The theme this week is "Innocent Wonder". There is not a lot I can say about this photo other than it captures innocent wonder perfectly. I imagine Logan was checking out my camera, which I did quite often. He was 5 weeks old when I took this photo and I am in LOVE! This is the screen saver for our playstation 3. LOVE IT! I'm kinda lucky I was able to snap a few shots of Logan out in the snow the other night. We have had hardly any snow this season and last weekend we had nearly 6 inches! So I bundled Logan up in his 2T winter gear which he could barely sit up in. Of all the shots, this is the best. I love the clarity in his eyes and expression and how the background is so blurry. It's not the best, but the whole reason for doing this is to get better, right?

This was sooooo hard to pick the photo for this week! I have not had a chance to really go out and try for that perfect picture yet so I've been digging through our archives. I found this gem. This is Brevon, one of my closest friends' son. I think he was 3 years old in this picture as we hiked up the Colorado National Monument in Western Colorado. It was an unusually warm day for March. I snapped this photo while Brevon was "searching for lizards". He was kind enough to give me a quick smile. Silly boy! He and Logan already love playing with each other when we are out on that side of the mountains!

This is by far my most FAVORITE and BEST picture I took all year of my week man. This face is to FREAKING DIE FOR! Amirite?! So CHEERS to the New Year! You will be seeing A LOT more photography from me so keep coming back! I am enjoying entering the photo contests on i heart faces. So FUN!

i heart faces-b&w photo contest

So folks, this is my very first time entering in the "i heart faces" photo contest. I have been following their blog for a very long time and have never been brave or confident enough to enter a photo--until today.

I LOVE black and white photography. My parents gifted me a coolpix camera back in 07 when I graduated from college and I was THRILLED to learn all the fun features. Black and white and sepia were both options and I often switch back and forth.

I would love own a more professional camera someday, however, I think my little camera does a damn good job when it wants to! Check out that photo of my wee man! This pic was taken on the beach of Lake Huron while on our visit to Michigan. Logan had been having a particularly bad day and taking him outside always cheers him up. It was unusually nice for an October day in Michigan so we all spent some time camped out on the beach relaxing and playing bocce ball. It was lovely.
